Clubs

Clubs are recognized by IWMSC (local), USMS (national) and FINA (world). Swimmers attached to a club enjoy all of the benefits of USMS and can participate in all competitions they are qualified for. Swimmers who are not attached to a club (Unattached) will not be allowed to swim in relay competitions at local, zone and national events nor will they be eligible to earn points for a club. Unattached members enjoy all of the other benefits, including insurance, records, periodicals and access to the web site features. Swimmers usually are attached to clubs in their geographic area, but there is no requirement to do so. Swimmers can join any club they wish. Swimmers can transfer between clubs after filing a transfer form, and completing the required wait time. (see below).

Workout Groups

The Hydropower Masters Swim Club (HMS) is made up of workout groups from all over the region. FINA, USMS national and USMS zones competitions do not recognize workout groups by themselves: competitors are members of Hydropower Masters Swim Club at these meets. Workout groups are recognized at local meets, where they can form relays and score points for their workout group. HMS workout groups come together as one club at zone and national meets to form relays and score points. Swimmers who are a member of HMS club, but are not attached to a workout group (HMS Unattached), can represent HMS at zones, and national competitions, but can not participate in relays at local competitions. Swimmers are usually attached to workout groups in their geographic area, but there is no requirement to do so. Swimmers can join any workout group they wish. Swimmers can transfer from workout group to workout group within HMS by contacting the registrar. Transfers are restricted prior to and during local meets.

How Should I Register?

If you plan to swim in zone or national competition and would like the opportunity to swim on relays or earn points, then you must register with a Club.

Check on the current list of clubs and workout groups, find one in your geographic area, and contact the club or workout group contact. Talk to them about your particular needs and any membership requirements they may have (i.e. fees, competition expectations, etc.)

Your registration option are:

  • You can register to be attached with any club or workout group you wish.
  • You can also be a part of Hydropower Master Swim club (HMS) not attached to a workout group.
  • You can be unattached to any club.

Transfer Between Clubs

Swimmers can transfer between clubs after filling out a transfer form, and completing the required 60 day waiting period. The date of a transfer is either the date the transfer is initiated by the unattached swimmer, or a minimum of 60 days past the last date they competed for the former club. Any transfer must be completed prior to the first day of competition for the new club.
